Fish report from South West Rocks 11/02/17
It has been another hit and miss week here at the Rocks. The Mackerel grounds off Grassy has been less than productive with a few Spotties, Spanish and Cobia caught out of a greenish water but its on the improve. The Jail grounds have been fishing well with some nice Spanish caught while fair numbers of small Blacks are also in close. Over the next few days Kayaks are all over the place so you should watch out. Dolphin fish are around the FAD at the moment as well as just a little wider off the Jail, what looks to be trap markers are creating structure attracting the odd Dolly. Down to Fish Rock there are lots of Rat Kings about with a few keepers amongst them. We have had reports of good Spanish around Hat Head with one or two Cobia and the odd Black and Striped Marlin caught. It has been tough going but there were a few Snapper boated off the bottom through the week. Great numbers of Bonito out there at the moment but on the down side Slimies are hard to find.
The River needs rain, its hard to pull a decent Flathead out of the usual haunts in crystal clear water. Best bet, fish the low light times on the run out tide. Bream and Moses Perch are in numbers but there’s no size in them. Now is the time to fish around Kempsey for some good Bass action with surface lures.
Rock Hoppers are reporting a few Spanish off the ledges mainly off Hat Head. These big swells we are having at the moment should stir up the beaches nicely for another good run of Whiting.
Take care on the Bars
