Fish report from South West Rocks 18/02/17

Well another end of the week written off with Nor’easters. A few guys have gone out today in a sloppy sea chasing the Mackerel that were there early in the week. Grassy held some Spotties and the odd Spanish but the better bite has been off the Jail grounds with some nice fish in the mix. There are still a few Cobia coming in from Scotts down to the Hat. The FAD is holding some Dolphin Fish with good Cod in the deeper water. Good numbers of Black Marlin are being caught off the Jail through the week giving some of those brave kayakers a tow around the ocean. We had good reports of Snapper up to 4 kilo with the odd Pearl Perch off Grassy, so it’s worth floating a Pilchard down to the bottom while you’re waiting for some surface action. Slimies were easier to get through the week but they were on the bigger size.

IMG_0309 This 26 kilo Jew was caught by Leroy Graeme from Newcastle on the local Charter boat Sea Urchin.

The river is full of Small Bream at the moment taking your bait but there were some nice Flathead landed through the week.

Small Kings and the odd Cobia were hunting along the south Break Wall last week giving the land based guys some action.

Smoky Beach again has been fishing well for Whiting and Dart on live worms but the boys are saying the SWR end of the beach is the more productive.

Take care on the Bars
